Background
Pine Brook Road Partners was founded in 2006, is a New York-based private equity firm focused on growth capital investments in the energy and financial services industries. The Firm is led by Howard Newman, President and CEO. He is supported by four other co-founders: Michael McMahon, William Spiegel, Robert Glanville and Joseph Gantz, who have over 100 years of experience of investing in, advising and operating businesses in the energy and financial service industries.

- Joseph Gantz (COO, Managing Director): Mr. Gantz is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Pine Brook and working with the management teams of Pine Brook's portfolio companies. He has an extensive track record as Chairman of five companies and CEO of two companies and is an experienced and successful investor. Mr. Gantz currently serves on the board of directors of Asia Pacific Exploration Consolidated, L.P. and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Committee of Economic Development, a 65-year-old organization of business, academic and foundation leaders formed to develop public policy recommendations. Mr. Gantz holds a B.A. in History from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from Columbia University Business School.
- Craig Jarchow, Ph.D., (Managing Director): Mr. Jarchow, working with Mr. McMahon and Mr. Newman, is responsible for managing Pine Brook's energy investing activities. Mr. Jarchow's energy industry experience spans over 15 years, in both investing and operations roles. Prior to joining Pine Brook Mr. Jarchow served as a Director at First Reserve Corporation, a $12-billion private-equity firm that specializes in the energy investments, where he was responsible for sourcing and structuring oil & gas transactions and monitoring various portfolio companies. Mr. Jarchow holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in geophysics from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, a Senior Lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management, and serves on the Stanford School of Earth Sciences Petroleum Investments Committee.
- William Spiegel (Founder, Managing Director): Mr. Spiegel is a founder of Pine Brook and together with Mr. Glanville is responsible for Pine Brook's financial services investing activities. Mr. Spiegel brings over 17 years of private equity experience to the Firm, including more than seven years of financial services investment experience. He was with The Cypress Group ("Cypress") from its inception in 1994 until 2006, where from 2005 he served as that firm's President. Prior to joining Cypress, Mr. Spiegel worked in the Merchant Banking Group at Lehman Brothers. Mr. Spiegel holds a B.Sc. in Economics from The London School of Economics, an M.A. in Economics from The University of Western Ontario and an M.B.A. from The University of Chicago.
